Cuckoo for Coconut Water: Why Drink This Refreshing Summer Drink?

We’re facing a confusing, and sometimes downright scary, time right now. There are threats to our health left and right, from common viral diseases, like the flu to the more serious Covid-19. As such, it’s up to us to strengthen our body and immune system.

Fortunately, the Philippines is gifted with countless natural produce with tons of different health benefits. The perfect example? Coconut. Specifically, the water found inside its green shell.

More Than Just a Summer Drink

Living in a tropical country with hundreds of perfectly picturesque beaches complete with towering coconut trees, we’re no stranger to coconut water. Whether you drink it straight from the young coconut shell complete with a straw and a tiny toothpick umbrella or you transfer it to a glass and consume it chilled, its delicate sweetness and refreshing taste can quench your thirst, especially on hot summer days.

More than that, though, coconut water is perhaps one of the healthiest natural beverages you can consume. Containing about 94 percent water, coconut water is low on fat and sugar and rich in essential minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium. As a result, coconut water offers plenty of health benefits, including the following:

1. Aids in your weight loss

Two of the most important factors for effective weight loss are diet and exercise. Coconut water can help with both.

First, it contains electrolytes (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus) which are key ingredients in most energy drinks. It’s also a low-calorie beverage, so you don’t have to worry much about your calorie intake when you’re drinking it. So when you’re exercising, you can simply open your bottle of fresh or branded coconut water and it’s as good as consuming an energy drink minus the added sugar and calories.

2. Helps you recover from a hangover

We’ve all had one of those days when it feels like someone’s doing construction work inside our skull. Having a little too much to drink can do that. And the last thing you want to do when suffering from a nasty hangover is to cook breakfast that will soak up all the alcohol you consumed the night before.

The next best thing? Rehydrate your body with coconut water. Its electrolyte content also restores your electrolyte imbalance, which is a leading cause of your hangover fatigue.

Apart from the nutrients mentioned above, coconut water is also rich in fiber. So if you’re suffering from indigestion or acid reflux, the fiber and other natural enzymes in coconut water can help soothe your tummy.

4. Boosts your immunity

Coconut water is simply filled with some of the most important vitamins and nutrients our bodies need. It contains B2 and B3, nutrients that are vital in maintaining the brain and body’s energy. Coconut water also contains Vitamin C, one of the best antioxidants out there. These and all the other nutrients found in coconut water help the body fight all sorts of diseases.

With summer about to roll around and with dangerous diseases in our midst, it’s a good thing we have coconut water. Its nutritional benefits and fresh flavor makes it one of the most ideal thirst quencher.
