12 Tips to Feeling Confident Without Makeup

We all have a unique relationship with makeup. For some, makeup is that one thing they’ll never leave the house without. For others, makeup is an art. For me, makeup is something I frequently wear to enhance or emphasize my natural features, be it my lips or my eyes.

But there’s one thing we all have in common: there are those days when you want nothing more than to let your skin breathe. No powder, no brow pencil, no nothing.

If you want to ditch the cake, but fear stepping outside without any makeup, here’s how you can confidently conquer the world in your bare face:

1. Keep your face squeaky clean

In the morning, be sure to wash your face really well to get rid of the oil buildup from last night’s beauty sleep. Pat your face dry right after with a soft towel.

2. Soak your skin up

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Put on a lightweight serum for the humid weather and a thicker cream for colder seasons. When your skin feels and looks hydrated, you’ll have a healthy, natural glow that no Becca highlighter can give.

3. Be prepared to kiss the sun

If I could wear only one product on my face for the rest of my life, it would be sunscreen. My face thirsts for sunlight and I make sure I wear sunscreen every day to protect it. If you’re uncomfortable about putting too many creams on your face, drop the moisturizer and go for a sunscreen instead. Sunscreens are formulated to provide both moisture and protection for your skin.

4. Grab the lash curler

Sometimes, a little pressing from an eyelash curler will do the trick. Bring the curler as close to your lash line as possible and give it a good press. Don’t pull!

5. Tend to your smackers

If you have dry lips, wear a lip balm before heading out. Get one that’s really hydrating and make sure to bring it with you so you can reapply hours later when your lips are feeling a little crusty.

6. A painful lush

It might be weird doing this in front of other people, but give your cheeks a little pinch or slap. When you add pressure onto the skin, it triggers blood flow and gives the surface a pinkish sheen.

7. VCO: your new best friend

I use my coconut balm for everything: lips, eyelashes, brows and even on my wrists for a sweet and subtle coconut scent. Find a coconut oil product that works best for your skin and use it as an all-around product.

8. Pluck!

We can’t always be at the top of our brow game. But, keeping your brows tamed will help you feel more confident heading out without brow pomade on. Pluck all stray hairs and trim long strands for a polished look.

9. Luscious locks

Sometimes, our hair has a life of its own. Keep it bouncy and soft by brushing it out or styling it in beautiful braids. The neater, the better.

10. Become the human embodiment of “Pak!”

When I have no makeup on, I’m usually in my most fashown clothes. Wear dainty jewelry and bust out a killer outfit so you’ll feel less daunted walking outside without makeup on.

11. Load up with H2O

When our mothers used to nag us when we were kids about drinking water, we couldn’t understand why. But now I do. To keep your skin looking healthy, you’re going to have to start from the inside. Drink at least 2 glasses of water in the morning before you leave to avoid dehydration throughout the day.

12. Embrace your flaws – and fall in-love with them in the process

Better said than done but if you start doing this routine more often, you’ll see that the flaws you try to hide with makeup aren’t so bad after all.

People won’t look at you differently for being proud of your bare face. If anything, you might even inspire others to do the same.
